MONTERREY '86 ✦ 80s Cumbia Colombiana & Button Accordion Tape Grooves [2 Hour Mix] | Neon Import

It's 2:40 a.m. in Monterrey, 1986, and the only light left on the Loma Larga is a corner store with its door propped open and a cumbia colombiana tape going. The Fundidora shut down in May. Down in the dry bed of the Santa Catarina, somebody left a radio on. On the steps above Colonia Independencia, two guys with a shift in the morning are playing colombiana for whoever's still up. Button accordion on the melody, congas in front, the scraper keeping time behind them, and a drum machine somebody borrowed and never gave back. The accordion player lets his cigarette burn down to the filter. The girl with the bow in her hair holds out a tape she dubbed off a dub at the Mercado Juarez and cups her ear, like you should already know this one. Nobody asks about her cheek. Two hours of cumbia colombiana, 80s drum-machine cumbia, barrio accordion grooves and market-stall cassette cumbia, recorded to cheap tape and never released. Leave it on for work or the drive down Constitucion. Or wait it out for the first bus to San Nicolas. Imported after dark. ✦ Sounds like: button accordion over a drum machine, congas through a blown patio speaker, the scraper in the back, gated snare, a dub of a dub on cassette ✦ Good for: Focus, Late Night Coding, Deep Work, Driving ✦ Another city, same hour: KEY WEST '85, lounge jazz on a flugelhorn at Mile 0 →    • KEY WEST '85 ✦ 80s Lounge Jazz & a Miami H...   ✦ Or PROVIDENCIA '85, island dub cumbia up the hill →    • PROVIDENCIA '85 ✦ 80s Caribbean Cumbia Dub...   ✦ Or SAN ANDRÉS '85, dub cumbia on a millo →    • SAN ANDRÉS '85 ✦ 80s Cumbia Dub on a Millo...   ✦ Or OCHO RIOS '85, dub trombone down through Fern Gully →    • OCHO RIOS '85 ✦ 80s Jamaican Dub Reggae Do...   ✦ All cities →    • All Cities: 80s Night Drive Mixes | Neon I...   Tracklist / Timestamps: 00:00 Acordeon en la Loma Larga - Button Accordion Cumbia 02:43 Los Colombias de la Esquina - Colombiana de Monterrey 05:32 Tendajo Abierto en Campana - Cumbia Synth Groove 08:15 Radio de Pilas en el Patio - Transistor Radio Cumbia 11:10 Farol de la Colonia - Late Night Cumbia 14:28 Escalinatas de la Independencia - Barrio Cumbia 17:34 Luna sobre el Cerro de la Silla - Accordion Night Drive 20:41 Puente San Luisito de Noche - Night Bridge Cumbia 23:32 Pulga en el Lecho del Rio - Flea Market Tape Grooves 26:47 Canchas Vacias del Santa Catarina - Conga Drum Groove 29:25 Casetes del Mercado Juarez - Cassette Cumbia 32:25 Barrio Antiguo Cerrando - Old Town Cumbia 35:36 Via del Tren a Laredo - Border Train Grooves 38:38 Neblina sobre el Obispado - Foggy Synth Cumbia 41:58 Fundidora Cerrada - Steel Town Cold Wave 45:16 Horno Tres Frio - Industrial Cumbia 48:33 Sirena del Turno de Noche - Night Shift Grooves 51:31 Chatarra en la Avenida Colon - Scrap Metal Drum Machine 54:38 Huelga en la Reja - Dark Cumbia 57:14 Lamina y Relampago - Storm Accordion Groove 1:00:00 Ultimo Camion a Guadalupe - Last Bus Cumbia 1:03:07 Silla a Oscuras - Blackout Cumbia 1:06:16 Cerro del Topo Chico - Hillside Night Grooves 1:08:48 La Huasteca sin Luna - Moonless Canyon Cumbia 1:11:47 Mitras en Silencio - Quiet Accordion Cumbia 1:14:45 Perros de la Loma - Tense Cumbia Groove 1:17:43 Veladora en la Purisima - Candlelight Cumbia 1:20:54 Trompo Encendido en Pino Suarez - Taco Stand Tape Grooves 1:23:53 Laser del Faro del Comercio - Green Laser Synth Cumbia 1:26:50 Macroplaza a las Tres - 3 AM Cumbia 1:29:55 Kiosco de la Plaza Zaragoza - Plaza Accordion Groove 1:31:52 Estadio Vacio del Mundial - World Cup '86 Night Grooves 1:34:00 Cabrito en la Constitucion - Northern Mexico Cumbia 1:37:07 Cerveceria con la Luz Prendida - Brewery Night Cumbia 1:40:12 Neon de la Avenida Madero - Neon Cumbia 1:43:05 Primera Luz en la Silla - First Light Accordion 1:46:00 Panaderia de la Colonia - Morning Cumbia 1:49:20 Primer Camion de San Nicolas - First Bus Grooves 1:52:10 Chicharras al Amanecer - Sunrise Cumbia 1:55:35 Tendedero en la Azotea - Rooftop Cumbia 1:58:41 Rio Seco con Sol - Monterrey Dawn Outro ✦ INSPIRED BY: Celso Piña • Los Vallenatos de la Cumbia • La Tropa Colombiana • Andrés Landero • Alfredo Gutiérrez © Neon Import.
