ABOUT / DESCRIPTION You may know these verses, but have you ever stopped and listened to what Jesus said to the people who crossed the sea looking for Him? They were seeking Jesus. They had taken shipping and come to Capernaum to find Him. But when they found Him, Jesus looked beyond their search and revealed the reason they had come. John 6:26 says: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.” They had experienced the provision, but Jesus turned their attention from the bread that had filled their stomachs to something far greater. Then came His command: “Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” The contrast is powerful. There is meat which perisheth, and there is meat which endureth unto everlasting life. The people then asked Jesus: “What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” His answer brings the passage directly to its central truth: “This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Jesus did not leave them focused on another meal. He pointed them to Himself and to believing on the One whom God had sent.
