Wine Review: Wolf Blass Eaglehawk Cabernet Sauvignon 2025

In this review I look at a wine from Wolf Blass, from a brand I have not tasted for many years. The wine is Wolf Blass Eaglehawk Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2025 vintage. This a brand has a long and interesting history, but while it is a sound wine, this didn't really excite my interest enormously. It was well-priced, with clean fruit and some Cabernet Sauvignon character, but alas it wasn't very well balanced and didn't seem to offer consumers any real excitement. Wolf Blass are a wine producer based in South Australia's Barossa Valley wine region. They make a large portfolio of wines at a range of price points and are one of the largest Australian producers by volume. Wolf Blass are best known for wines made from the popular red grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The company was founded in 1966 in Barossa by German-born Wolfgang Franz Otto Blass. The wine labels are color-coordinated by pricing tier, with yellow being the value range and platinum reserved exclusively for single-vineyard bottlings. The inaugural release of the platinum range was a 1998 Shiraz, which went on to be named Best Shiraz in the World at the 2002 International Wine and Spirit Competition. Today, Wolf Blass source grapes from all over South Australia including Clare Valley, Eden Valley, Langhorn Creek, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra. In 2003 it became Australia's leading brand by volume and now produces approximately 5 million cases of wine annually. Wolf Blass is currently owned by the Treasury Wine Estates conglomerate, which also owns premium Australian wine brand Penfolds.
