1973, St Mary's Mayday

Now is the month of Maying! This months 'old' Scilly movie takes us back to May 8th, 1973. Actually a bit of a strange coincidence, as this years St Mary's May day also falls on May 8th! At the moment I don't have the main ceremony with Catherine Nicholls being crowned Queen of the May, but we do luckily have the May Pole dances and bits of the town walk and sing. The reel was silent, but I have added a 'May Day medley' by Wayside music to accompany it as well as some original piano played by Hilda Pearce from 1980 which is more authentic to how it would have been accompanied back in the 70s. 1973 is the first year where it was entirely reduced to just primary school pupils participating. A big thank you to the Lewis family for letting us transfer and share these wonderful 8mm memories. Not to overlook gig weekend, we'll get a gig video up mid-month.
