Manipur Violence: 3 Killed In Forest Ambush, Protesters Bring Bodies To CM’s Residence | News9

Manipur is witnessing fresh violence after three people collecting firewood in the hills near their village were allegedly killed in a militant ambush on Monday. The victims were among 16 people who had gone to the area around 7 am. Three others have reportedly been injured and another three are missing. Angry locals brought two bodies to Imphal and placed them outside Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh’s residence in Babupara, demanding action over the killings. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse protesters, while security was tightened around the CM’s residence and nearby routes. The Chief Minister later visited injured people receiving treatment at a private hospital. Separately, clashes during a musical event in Thoubal district reportedly left one person dead and several injured, with houses and vehicles set on fire. The incidents have renewed concerns over Manipur’s security situation amid tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities that began in May 2023.
