A morning prayer for your identity in Christ, for anybody who lets the day decide what they are worth while the day is still going on. A Christian prayer about knowing who you belong to, being fully known by God, and carrying that into the hours ahead. What if the one thing about you that was already settled is the one thing you keep going out without? Nothing has to have gone wrong for this to be yours. Most of us keep a running total on ourselves that nobody ever asked us to keep, and by the middle of the morning we are whatever the last thing said back to us. This is a prayer about what has already been decided. We find a man in the worst year of his life saying that the Lord is his portion, and notice what he has left when he says it. We watch a priest stand in front of God in filthy clothes with nothing to say for himself, and see the whole case settled by a change of raiment. We sit at a king's table with a man whose feet were never healed, and read the order of the sentence that ends his chapter. We are handed a white stone with a name cut into it that nobody else can read. And we finish on four words almost nobody quotes, where the knowing turns out to be in the present tense. Then we pray, at length, over the day itself. The first hour. The work. The people. The roads. What the day costs. The decisions. And the hour when nobody says anything either way and we start filling the quiet in ourselves. God has not changed His mind about who you are. Scriptures in this prayer: Lamentations 3:24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. Zechariah 3:3, 4 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. 2 Samuel 9:13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet. Revelation 2:17 To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. Then tell me one thing you are carrying into today that you would rather not be judged by, and I will pray it with you. And if somebody came to mind while you were listening, somebody who has had a week of being told what they are worth by the wrong things, send them this one.
