🇬🇧 Returning to My Hometown After 25 Years: North Shields, Whitley Bay & Hadrian’s Wall After 25 years away, we’re back in my hometown in the northeast of England — North Shields, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and the River Tyne. Staying with my parents, revisiting childhood places, exploring Roman history, and rediscovering the coastline I grew up beside made this a really special part of our UK return. What’s in this video: Back to see my parents in the house I grew up in Walking to the beaches I visited as a kid — Whitley Bay, King Edward’s Bay, Tynemouth Visiting Segedunum Roman Fort at Wallsend — the literal end of Hadrian’s Wall Learning more about the Roman Empire’s northern frontier Visiting Newcastle: the castle, St James’ Park, the bridges, the Quayside Taking the Shields Ferry across the River Tyne — family history included Exploring Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields, one of the few reconstructed Roman sites in England Visiting St Mary’s Lighthouse and spotting seals A Whitley Bay parkrun in the cool coastal breeze A nostalgic look at the towns, beaches, and landmarks that shaped my childhood A beautiful, emotional, and history‑filled return to the northeast — seeing what’s changed, what’s stayed the same, and what I remember (or don’t!) after a quarter of a century. #JillAndEuan #SlowTravel #EarlyRetirementTravel #TravelCouple #UKTravel #NorthShields #WhitleyBay #Tynemouth #HadriansWall #RomanHistory #NewcastleUponTyne #EnglandTravel #TravelVlog #BackpackingLife #LongTermTravel #EuropeTravel
