Streams of Merit (8/15/2026)

In this class, Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi discusses Anguttara Nikaya, Book of Eights, sutta nos. 38 and 39. In the first, the Buddha explains how a good person--the devoted disciple--arises in the world for the good of many people, benefiting all who come under his influence. In the second, he declares the Three Refuges and the Five Precepts each to be a "stream of merit, a stream of the wholesome." He further explains how observing the five precepts gives safety and security to countless living beings.
