Warhammer 40K lore to fall asleep to, told by the one who lived it. Every word is his, and he has about a minute to say them.
Horus Lupercal is on the floor of his own bridge. The Angel is dead beside him. His father is standing over him with one eye, and a moment ago that father reached into his mind and tore out the four gods that had lived there for seven years. The voices are gone. For the first time since a stone on Davin, the Warmaster's mind is his own, and everything he did is laid out in front of him in a single piece, and he has asked to die, and in the space before the answer he is going to tell it.
From a mine on Cthonia, where a boy led a gang and a light came down the shaft and gave him a name. Thirty years at his father's side before he met a single brother. Ullanor, the title, and the chamber under the stage where he was given a galaxy and told he could not be trusted with the one thing that mattered. The Interex, who tried to warn him. Davin, the blade, and a door that opened both ways. Isstvan, the list of his own sons, and the first time he said "it was necessary." Nine brothers and what each of them cost. Molech. The sky torn open over Terra. The Angel at the gate. And the reason the shields came down, which he has never told anyone, and which was not a trap.
This is the account of a man who chose, three times, to stand up out of the quiet and call the gods back, and who is, for one minute, in the quiet for good.
WHAT'S COVERED
Cthonia, the light in the shaft, the name that was saved, and thirty years alone with him
Ullanor, the Warmaster, the chamber under the stage, the clerks, and the people who tried to warn him
Davin: Temba, the blade, the lodge, the stone, the vision that was true, Magnus in the dark, and the choice
Isstvan: the list, the sky, Loken and Torgaddon, the second trap, and Ferrus's head on the table
Nine brothers, one at a time, and what each of them cost; Russ's spear; Molech; what the gods gave him
Terra from above, Perturabo's arithmetic, Dorn's walls, the Khan, and the day he tore the sky
Signus, the Angel on the wall, the Eternity Gate, the offer he did not refuse, and Malcador on the Throne
The shields, the Angel on the deck, the third quiet, and the reason
The room: a father who would not fight, a soldier in the doorway, and the hand in his mind
The last minute: the case for the blade, what he would say to each of them, where the line is
Told in his voice. The events are the canon. The voice is written for this
channel, from the lore, one man's account of the seven years that ended the age, and of the thirty that made him want to.
Sleep well.
