Engineers said the tunnel is being built using NATM technology and is being prepared for broad gauge railway tracks connecting the Himalayan region. Dedicated provisions for signalling, telecom, fibre optic cables and electrical systems are also being installed. Officials highlighted the tunnel’s aerodynamic portal design to reduce air pressure impact when trains exit at high speed. Rock bolting, wire mesh and slope stabilization measures have been added for safety against landslides. Emergency escape tunnels with cross passages are also under construction.
