Rob Matare - If It's Real (Official Lyric Visualizer)

If It's Real by Rob Matare is an emotional hip hop tribute to a mother's sacrifice and to what success really costs. From the album Run That By Me. A broken elevator and seven flights with the groceries. Mama's key ring jingled with eleven keys for eleven jobs she cleaned, and not a single door was hers. She came home smelling like bleach and other people's floors. He wrote bars on mustard-stained deli napkins, and when the landlord came with a clipboard, Mama put her hand up like she wore a crown. He promised her a front door with her own lock. Now he owns the building, froze the rent and put his family on the books. But there is a receipt he never flashes: he missed Grandpa's funeral for a sold-out show in Memphis. Real is when you pay the cost and never ask it back. Ten keys are retired and framed beside the door, and one opens her own front door, her name on the buzzer and the kettle hers. “If it's real, it don't need a clock.” This visualizer is a heartfelt rap song for mothers, for single moms who worked every shift and for the kids who promised them a home. Piano and a chopped beat carry a story about loyalty, family and staying the same from the hallway to the penthouse. What promise did you make to your mother?
