Today, we're driving through a road in China's great northwest that's soon to disappear — Route 66. Once the Yellow River Black Mountain Gorge Water Conservancy Project is built, this stunning road and the villages along it will be submerged forever. The Yellow River makes a bend in Zhongwei, Ningxia, leaving behind a winding 38-kilometer country road. Travelers call it "China's Route 66" — the surging Yellow River on your left, red Gobi hills on your right. It's a rough ride, but the views never stop. So sit back, relax, and come along with me on this raw and romantic, lonely and liberating road trip.
