Oasis Location: Brussels, Belgium Venue: La Luna Theatre Date: 31st October 1995 Source: Audience Recording Things have been hectic this last month for Oasis. Having to reschedule gigs meant for the previous month after Guigsy’s departure, he was replaced by Scott McLeod. Following the Boston gig however, Scott left a mere three days later as he was “missing his bird” though personally, I think this was just a cop-out excuse to hide the fact that the band were too rowdy, added to the fact they were quickly on the ascension to worldwide fame. His replacement was Guigs himself. The rest of the few American dates left were cancelled, minus one appearance on David Letterman as a four piece (with Bonehead playing bass). Therefore this gig in Brussels is Guigsy’s first gig back, for him and the rest of the band to warm up before conquering Earl’s Court, as the set is exactly the same to that night (even including a rare non-UK performance of Round Are Way). For a long time before this recording was released, a lot of people assumed this gig also contained Bonehead on a rare bass appearance. But we know this isn’t true now as some video excerpts filmed from the audience exist showing Guigsy, plus it’s pretty obvious to hear that there’s a rhythm guitarist on top of the lead alongside the bass. This recording is VERY new to bootleg circles, only being released two months ago. Straight after its release, a bootleg CD was pressed out too. So, i’m uploading for the sake of pushing it out to those who have no means of signing up to forums or purchasing CD’s (that can be quite expensive) when online streaming is now so readily available, added to the fact that it’s the next gig i’ve listened to. It also is an interesting recording for several reasons. Firstly, Liam starts off really well but blows his voice out during Hello. He does okay after this until Cigarettes & Alcohol, where his voice sounds really raw on some of the notes, and Live Forever isn’t great either. Noel himself does well on this gig, even his playing is still like the rest of the U.K gigs earlier in the month. He takes over Whatever from Liam, therefore Noel performs this with the rest of the band for one of the only times ever, which makes for a really interesting listen. The song would stay on the set for near a month with Liam on vocals, with most the versions being the same arrangement to the renditions from the previous year. Unfortunately, this gig ends on a sour note, Liam just gives up completely on I Am The Walrus as his voice isn’t up to it or something was thrown onstage (as there seems to be problems with objects as Liam says before Live Forever) and this time, even the band also decide not to bother, thus we have the shortest ever version of I Am The Walrus ever played. This gig is really a mixed bag, but the anomalies with the set, Liam, and the aborted I Am The Walrus make it such a interesting listen for the tour, that if you wish to give it a whirl go for it.
