Montgomery's Top 3 Legendary Tactical Moves | The Fox Hunter of the Desert

Montgomery's Top 3 Legendary Tactical Moves | The Fox Hunter of the Desert Bernard Montgomery's three greatest moves, counted down from number three to number one, map by map — from a night march across a collapsing front in Flanders to the battle that turned the desert war. Move #3 — Dunkirk, May 1940: when the Belgian army surrendered and a gap tore open on the British flank, Montgomery's 3rd Division slipped out of its line in the dark and marched across the rear of the army to plug it before dawn. Move #2 — Alam Halfa, August–September 1942: a new commander refuses to fight Rommel's kind of battle, digs in on the ridge, and lets the Afrika Korps break itself on prepared ground and empty fuel tanks. Move #1 — Second El Alamein, October–November 1942: the night barrage, the crumbling fight through the minefields, and the sudden pivot to Supercharge that hit Rommel's army "for six". Three, two, or one? Which was Montgomery's best move: the Dunkirk sidestep, Alam Halfa, or Alamein? Tell us in the comments.
