Genesis 6:10–22: The God Who Preserves Would you obey God if He asked you to do something that didn’t yet make sense? As we read and pray through Genesis 6:10–22, God gives Noah an extraordinary assignment: build an ark in preparation for a judgment he cannot yet see. God provides detailed instructions, promises to establish His covenant with Noah, and makes provision for Noah’s family and the creatures that will enter the ark. Noah responds by doing everything God commands him. But the ark is more than a story about Noah’s obedience. In the midst of coming judgment, God provides a means of rescue and preserves life according to His covenant purposes. Noah cannot yet see what lies ahead, but he can trust the God who has spoken. The ark also points us beyond Noah’s story toward the greater salvation God ultimately provides for us in Jesus Christ.
