ISIOLO ISLAMIC LEADERS AND ELDERS CALL FOR CALM AMID MOYALE–ETHIOPIA CONFLICT By Bruno Mutunga Islamic leaders and elders from Isiolo County have urged Kenyans to remain calm and avoid inflammatory statements on social media following the escalation of conflict in Ethiopia’s Moyale border region. The leaders expressed concern over the reported influx of Ethiopian refugees into Kenya, calling for restraint, peaceful coexistence and responsible communication to prevent further tensions among communities on both sides of the border. They also appealed to Kenyan President William Ruto and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali to urgently intervene by facilitating humanitarian assistance for those fleeing the conflict while pursuing a lasting peace agreement between the warring Oromo and Somali communities. The leaders emphasized the need for dialogue, cooperation and coordinated efforts by both governments to protect civilians, support displaced families and restore peace and stability in the border region. They further cautioned social media users against spreading unverified information or messages that could incite hostility and undermine peaceful relations among communities.
