The Forgotten Basketball Game That Came Before NBA 2K

Before NBA 2K became one of the biggest basketball gaming franchises ever, Visual Concepts made NBA Fastbreak ’98 on the original PlayStation. In this video, I go back to this forgotten PS1 basketball game to see if you can spot the beginnings of what would eventually become NBA 2K. NBA Fastbreak ’98 featured the full 1997-98 NBA roster, season and playoff modes, create-a-player, team-specific offensive and defensive plays, stat tracking, multiple camera angles, and commentary from legendary Lakers announcer Chick Hearn. I revisit the gameplay, graphics, animations, shooting, dunks, presentation, and overall basketball experience to see how Visual Concepts approached an NBA simulation before NBA 2K even existed. Does NBA Fastbreak ’98 feel like an early version of 2K, or is it completely different from the series Visual Concepts would create just a few years later?
