The van, stolen out of Kansas City, was located traveling southbound on Interstate 49 near Peculiar. Troopers and Cass County deputies attempted a felony traffic stop, but the driver — Dylan Lancaster — accelerated away and initiated a lengthy pursuit. The pursuit quickly escalated as Lancaster fled through Harrisonville and Peculiar, repeatedly driving in an extremely dangerous manner: 🚫 Traveled the wrong direction on Interstate 49 ↔️ Swerved between traffic lanes and shoulders 🛑 Ran multiple stop signs 🏡 Drove through yards and between residences 🚶 Drove approximately 40 mph on a walking trail 🚧 Fled through an active construction zone with workers present 💥 Struck the rear of a pickup truck and continued fleeing During the pursuit, officers deployed spike strips multiple times. Lancaster avoided some deployments by driving through yards and grass areas. Deputies successfully grappled the trailer, but Lancaster repeatedly shifted between drive and reverse before tearing the trailer completely free from the stolen van and continuing to flee. The chase continued onto Route YY, where Lancaster repeatedly drove into oncoming lanes over hills and around traffic. After another grappler attempt, deputies received authorization to forcibly end the pursuit. A patrol vehicle performed a PIT/TVI onthe van on East 219th Street, sending it into a ditch and ending the pursuit. Lancaster immediately exited the van and ran into a nearby cornfield. Multiple agencies responded and searched for hours, but Lancaster escaped capture that day. Investigators later identified him through officer observations, passenger statements, and surveillance footage from Town Topic Hamburgers in Kansas City earlier that day showing him operating the stolen van.
