Driver’s Eye View - Środa Narrow Gauge Railway (Poland) Part 1

Środa Wielkopolska (Polish: ɕrɔda vjɛlkɔˈpɔlska) is a town located in western-central Poland, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of Poznań, It is the starting point for a heritage 750 mm narrow-gauge railway that runs for 14 km to the beautiful lakeside town of Zaniemyśl. The railway transports passenger back to a time when a steam locomotive hauling a line of rickety old carriages was the norm. The carriages are furnished with painted/varnished wooden seats and a coal fired stove is provided to keep passengers warm on a winter’s day. To complete the period scene the lineside signals, train tickets and staff uniforms are straight out of the 1950’s.
