Foça, a summer night in 1962. The old keeper climbs the spiral stair to light the lamp, and his terrace above the Aegean turns into a midnight gathering: a neighbour's kanun propped on the railing, the lamps of the little harbour coming on one by one below, a Roma clarinettist rowing over from a fishing boat, rakı lined along the warm stone parapet, a monk seal surfacing in the sweep of the lamp, the north wind tugging at the tablecloths, fishermen dancing a karşılama on the narrow gallery — and the quartet still playing as the great lens turns into first light. The set plays through twice, so put it on and leave it running. No talking, no ads inside the mix, no interruptions. Oud leads, with kanun, clarinet, upright bass and a light darbuka. No vocals.
