Around 70,000 years ago, a few thousand people walked out of Africa. Within about 60,000 years, their descendants had reached every continent except Antarctica, crossing deserts, ice sheets, open sea and a land bridge that no longer exists. No maps, no boats at first, no idea where they were going.
In this video we follow the longest journey in human history: the road out of Africa, the green Arabia that opened the way, the meeting with Neanderthals in Europe, the first sea crossing to Australia, the frozen walk through Siberia and Beringia, the first Americans, the footprints left in New Mexico, and the last great voyages across the Pacific.
And the big question: why did they keep going?
