City Lights 🎵 Verse 1 I turn at the corner, and the crowd spreads toward the riverside. My shoes cross the bridge, while beyond the railing, the water folds the high-rises into blocks of light. Someone looks down, scrolling through a phone, someone stands leaning into the wind; a cat curls up on the stone steps, sleeping the night into a shape of its own. Pre-Chorus The city does not speak, it simply glows in its separate places. I pass through them and let my footsteps meet the next crossing. Chorus City lights— not in the distance, but one lamp after another beside me. Red from the bridge, yellow from the shops, the river stretches them out, then softly folds them into ripples. Some gather, some hurry on, some simply walk and watch the water. The city does not arrange anyone’s destination; as each person passes through, it simply reveals that everyone is still living. Verse 2 The moon hangs high, while tree shadows divide the sky into narrow pieces. Two cats nestle together, grooming each other, and windows across the river still glow floor by floor. A billboard flashes through many colors, while laughter spills full from the shops. I lower my phone and hear the water striking the shore, slower than the human voices. Pre-Chorus The road has not stopped, it has only changed its brightness. The outlines folded away by day rise into view again at night. Chorus City lights— not in the distance, but one lamp after another beside me. Red from the bridge, yellow from the shops, the river stretches them out, then softly folds them into ripples. Some gather, some hurry on, some simply sit and watch the water. The city does not arrange anyone’s destination; as each person passes through, it simply reveals that everyone is still living. Bridge The cats keep to their little corner, people walk in their own directions. The river receives the lights, and the lights answer the faces of passersby. No one becomes the center of the field; the whole city simply keeps flowing this way. Outro I keep walking forward. The moon is still there, and so is the bridge. The lights behind me do not follow; they simply remain where they are, lighting a short stretch of road for the next person passing through.
