What happened to Brandon Swanson? The unsolved Minnesota vanishing that ended a 47-minute phone call. In May 2008, 19-year-old Brandon Swanson was walking across dark farm fields in southwestern Minnesota, on the phone with his father, sure he was close to the small town of Lynd. Forty-seven minutes into the call, he said "Oh," then a curse word, and the line went dead. No one has seen or heard from him since. After his last day of classes, Brandon's car veered off a gravel road and got hung up at the edge of a field. He wasn't hurt. He told his parents he was near Lynd, but they couldn't find him there. That afternoon, phone records and a search led officers to his car more than 20 miles from where he believed he was. Dogs, airplanes, and hundreds of volunteers searched the fields and the Yellow Medicine River. His phone, glasses, keys, and clothing have never been found. This file walks through the night, the search, four theories weighed for and against, and Brandon's Law — the Minnesota law his family pushed for after, by his mother's account, an officer told her that her adult son had "a right to be missing." This is a real, unsolved case, told calmly from public reporting and official records (sources below). No one has been charged. No person is named or implied as a suspect. ⏱ CHAPTERS 00:00 Cold open: the call 00:51 Tonight's file 01:35 Chapter 1: The Boy on the Other End of the Line 03:12 Chapter 2: Forty-Seven Minutes 06:18 Chapter 3: Twenty Miles 08:07 Chapter 4: Four Theories 12:26 Chapter 5: The Porch Light 13:46 Brandon's Law 14:23 If you have information 14:58 Next time: The Springfield Three 📞 IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT NIGHT Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension: 651-793-7000 or Lyon County Sheriff's Office · (507) 537-7666 Brandon's parents and sister are living, and they are still waiting for answers.
