(Sorry about the quality, I had set the encoder to webm. whoops) Oh man, this took me back a few years! Last time I played this was in 2023.. sort of. I had played the Atari ST version of this. It's on my old channel ‪@ReverseHappyHelmetHahaha‬ So, 3 years from when this gets uploaded, how does it hold up? HORRIBLY. The Amiga is a capable computer. It can do so much more than this. This is rushed to the Nth degree. This game barely feels like an Amiga game.. in fact I have a suspicion that this was a port from the Atari ST version, with the most minor of alterations to account for how different each computer is. Anyway.. what is Pac-Land, beyond a horrid Amiga game? Pac-Land is a 1984 arcade game made by Namco, and it's sort-of the grandaddy of all the sidescrolling platformers we have today. The original game is actually really good, and really fun. This Amiga port, done by Grandslam.. isn't. It feels like a combination of being way too stiff and way too slippery. Granted, the original game did feel like that, but it was nowhere near this bad. The four ghosts all use the same sprite for each method of attacking, which looks really weird, while Sue is colored pink. I will say though, Pac-Man looks really unbothered when jumping and his pose makes me chuckle. The frames can drop even when nothing is happening, the controls are too floaty for how this feels, the music, while it is rather decent, plays in the wrong areas (the main gameplay tune is actually supposed to play when Pac-Man gets those magical boot things), and I doubt the secrets from the original are here. Overall, this is a bad reproduction of a rather serviceable arcade game. There are many better ways to play Pac-Land.
