Step inside a real painting from 1887 and stay for an hour.
Rain runs down the window of a quiet gallery. On the wall hangs Liverpool Quay by Moonlight by John Atkinson Grimshaw. Then the gallery falls away and you are standing on the wet cobbles of the quay itself: gaslit shop windows, ships' masts in the mist, an omnibus with its green lamp coming up the street, just after the rain.
A railway clerk who taught himself to paint, Grimshaw spent his life painting cities by gaslight and moonlight. This is one of his finest nocturnes. The painting is shown exactly as he painted it; only the camera moves.
One hour of melancholic Romantic-era piano and orchestral music, for reading, studying, writing and quiet evenings.
