Day 181 of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Wednesday 30 September 2026, at the Bridget Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria. Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe "Ferrari" Sibanyoni was back in the witness chair. Chief Evidence Leader Adv. Matthew Chaskalson played a three-minute video of a January 2024 meeting with traditional leaders, President Ramaphosa and Minister Gwede Mantashe. In it, Sibanyoni says local business organisations want a 30% stake in Putco's KwaNdebele operation. A year later, 51 Putco buses were set alight. The commission also heard evidence of more than 350 incidents between October 2024 and January 2025 in which Putco buses were allegedly blocked by taxi operators. Sibanyoni denies any link to the arson and says "interfere" meant "engage". When he suggested the questioning had become personal, Justice Madlanga told him he was imputing impropriety where none existed.
