Madlanga Commission Day 180 | Sibanyoni Returns: Extortion Denials, R900K Payment and Legal Fees for a Convicted Man On Day 180 of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry (Tuesday, 29 September 2026), Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe "Ferrari" Sibanyoni returned to the witness stand to answer questions about his relationship with Bafana "King of the Sky" Sindane and an alleged R2 million extortion racket linked to the Moloto Road project. WHAT HAPPENED TODAY Sibanyoni denied sending or instructing any threatening message to businessman Dr Tengane Ntuli, and told the commission Sindane acted on his own. The commission was shown a WhatsApp message allegedly sent by Sindane after a missed payment, referring to a 60/40 split and giving Ntuli 48 hours to explain why his operation shouldn't be stopped. Sibanyoni said he paid Ntuli R900,000, the same man who accuses him of extorting about R2 million. He was questioned on payments towards the legal fees of Gwabo Mahlangu, a man convicted in a taxi-related murder case. His explanation: the man's mother asked him. Evidence leader Adv. Matthew Chaskalson SC described the affidavits and chats as pointing to an extortion racket enforced with threats of violence. ALSO THIS WEEK Monday (Day 179): Maj-Gen Feroz Khan failed to appear despite a subpoena, and the commission said it will lay criminal charges. Sindane's urgent bid to stop the commission hearing his evidence was struck off the roll. An informant whose identity was disclosed in Monday's hearings demanded protection guarantees from the commission. The commission's final report deadline is now 25 January 2027.
