In 1503, a 13-year-old English princess rode north to marry the 30-year-old king of Scotland, in a treaty that was meant to bring perpetual peace between the two kingdoms. Margaret Tudor, the sister of Henry VIII, bore six children and buried five. Ten years after her wedding, her husband was killed at Flodden by an English army, and she was left to rule a broken country. Her blood, in the end, united the crowns.
In this video, we follow the record: the herald's account of her journey, the poems of the court, her own letters, and the work of historians. We test three questions. Was the marriage a success? Did James really die at Flodden? And was she a traitor to Scotland?
