Genesis 11:1-10: The God Who Humbles The Proud What happens when human ambition becomes more about making a name for ourselves than honouring the name of God? In Genesis 11:1–10, we come to the familiar story of the Tower of Babel. Humanity gathers with an impressive plan: build a city and a tower reaching toward the heavens, make a name for themselves, and resist being scattered across the earth. What looks like remarkable unity and achievement also reveals something deeper—a desire for security, significance, and control apart from God. At Babel, God disrupts their plans, confuses their language, and scatters the people. Yet Babel is not the end of the story. Scripture will eventually take us from scattered languages at Babel to the many languages of Pentecost—and ultimately toward people from every tribe, nation, and tongue gathered around Christ.
