I Had No Idea THIS Is What Happens to America's Trash...

I genuinely had no idea this was what happened to so much of America's trash. What looks like an ordinary hill can actually be an enormous engineered landfill—with liners, drainage systems, compacted layers of waste, gas collection wells, and decades of monitoring hidden underneath. Today I'm watching Practical Engineering explain the hidden engineering of landfills, using California's Puente Hills Landfill as one of the main examples. I went from realizing that literal “trash mountains” exist, to wondering where landfill water goes, how all that garbage stays contained, what happens to it over time, and how a closed landfill can eventually become usable green space. This made something we all do every day—throwing something away—feel way more complicated than I ever realized. 💬 If you've ever worked at a landfill, in waste management, sanitation, recycling, or environmental engineering, what's something most people completely misunderstand about where their trash goes? ✨ Follow & Support 🎥 Twitch:   / finnishgirlreacts   📸 Instagram: @this.is.saini ☕ Support the channel: https://buymeacoffee.com/finnishgirl 🎁 Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.es/hz/wishlist/ls/...
