Do you have to re-enroll in Medicare for 2027? In many cases, no—but doing nothing without checking your notices could leave you with coverage that has changed or no longer fits your needs.
If you want to keep your current Medicare health or drug plan and it’s continuing next year, you generally don’t need to submit a new enrollment request. But your plan’s costs, benefits, provider network, or drug coverage may change. Read your Annual Notice of Change and check whether your plan is renewing for 2027. If your plan is ending, you may need to choose another option.
In this video, we explain what can happen if you take no action, when your current coverage may continue automatically, and which notices to look for before Medicare Open Enrollment ends. We also clarify that Medicare enrollment deadlines can differ for people signing up for Medicare for the first time or who qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
Medicare Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. Compare plans and confirm your situation with Medicare or your plan before the deadline.
