"Ice kept the parchment. It could not keep the ink." 🌑 This record tells an old story. When the library burned, the choir was singing a line of Latin seven hundred years old — it will dissolve the world into ashes. Somebody carried the surviving scrolls over a mountain in winter and sealed them in ice. The ice held for centuries. The writing did not. A whole life of copying, and what is left is the paper. It happens to us too. You put everything you have into keeping something, and when you finally look back, the part you actually wanted to keep has been gone for a long time. I did not want this to sound like loss. Loss is easy — you go quiet at the end and everybody understands. I wanted it to sound like forgetting, which is not the same thing. Forgetting does not arrive. By the time you notice it, it has already been going on for a long while — the way you realise one day that you have not been able to picture someone's face for months. So the voice keeps losing its edges. By the end there is no word left at all, only breath. The word she is still trying to say is Hava — air. She becomes the thing she is saying. Across the twenty pieces some instruments change and one never does. That one is the good one — something that stays exactly the same while everything around it thins out is what gives you a fixed point to measure the loss against. Listen closely and see if you can pick out which it is. 🔊 Soundscape Elements: Slowed sampled breakbeat with a gated-reverb snare, the same groove holding across all twenty pieces One instrument that never changes, moving to a different place in every piece Santur, Setar, Tar, Kamancheh, Duduk, Oud and Dotar surfacing one at a time as distant accents Deep male monk choir against a breathy Farsi whisper — living liturgy against a dying language 🎧 HEADPHONES REQUIRED — the articulation decay is the whole record, and it is easy to miss on speakers. ⚠️ Listen closely around the first minute of each piece — when the beat vanishes and only a whisper remains... that is the moment.
