Shivering Timbers Dojo continues putting more things on video for people to reference and learn from. This video was a review of the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth techniques on the Nage no Kata board of Danzan Ryu jujitsu: Kane Sute, Tomoe Nage, & Yama Arashi- crab sacrifice, comma throw, and mountain storm. Note that Danzan Ryu throws often share names with judo throws, and in some cases are practiced rather differently, or are mechanically different than the judo version. That's ok, but keep that in mind when you approach these videos that the name might look different than you are used to. Kane sute is judo's kane basami, tomoe nage is the same, and yama arashi is markedly different. It goes from being a throw to a throw and lock. If you practice these techniques differently that we have represented here, great. I hope this gives you a fresh look. If you know variations of these techniques, also great. There's more than one way to skin a cat. This video and those that follow are never going to replace practicing with an instructor and good partners. But it will help you remember points of the techniques. This video is absolutely geared towards the beginning stages of learning- low resistance, high compliance. Aliveness comes later. For now, enjoy some footage, and maybe learn a thing.
