Livonia: the First Parkrun in USA

On June 2, 2012, 28 runners showed up to a park in Livonia, Michigan — a quiet suburb of Detroit most people probably haven't heard of. That morning, they ran the first parkrun in the United States. In the entire Western Hemisphere, actually. I went to run it. Parkrun is a free, weekly 5K that now takes place at 2,000+ locations across 23 countries. It started in London in 2004, spread to Zimbabwe, Australia, South Africa — and then somehow landed in Livonia. parkrun is free and open to everyone.
