Put on Faith, Love, and Hope

Dressed for the Day That's Coming 1 Thessalonians 5:8-9 CSB - But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled and put on the armor of faith and love, and a helmet of the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, Paul opens and closes his first letter to the Thessalonians with the same triumphant triad — faith, hope, and love — not merely as virtues to admire but as armor to wear daily and fruit to bear visibly in a world that is watching. Because we belong to the day and not the darkness, we are called to live with self-controlled readiness, dressed in the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet of the hope of salvation — fully assured that God has not appointed us to wrath but to salvation through Jesus Christ, who absorbed it all on the cross. The fruit of these three virtues is not only personally sustaining but outwardly encouraging — motivating us to share with the lost, comfort the grieving, and build one another up as we see the day of Christ's return approaching. Keep loving Jesus, keep walking in faith, keep your hope fixed on what is coming — and let the overflow of all three point everyone around you to the One who is faithful to complete what He has promised.
