📺🇬🇾 YouTube Description 📺🇬🇾 ONE TV IN DE VILLAGE! | When the Whole Village Watched Together — 1980s Guyana Who remembers when one family had a television... and somehow the whole village had a television too? 😂 Back in Guyana during the 1980s, watching TV wasn't always something you did alone in your own house. In some neighborhoods, everybody knew which house had the television—and when something good was coming on, people started gathering. Children sat on the floor. Adults brought chairs and stools. Some squeezed onto the veranda. And if you came too late? You might be watching through the window! 😂 Then came the biggest challenge... Daddy trying to get the picture clear. Turn the knob... Move the antenna... A little more... “HOLD IT DEY! DE PICTURE BRIGHT!” And the moment he moved his hand... “NOOOOOOO!” 📺😂 “One TV in De Village!” is an original nostalgic Guyanese song celebrating those simple days when a tiny television could bring an entire neighborhood together. There weren't hundreds of channels, streaming services, smartphones, tablets, or remote controls. But when Bollywood movie night came around, everybody wanted a good seat. 🎶❤️ And when West Indies cricket was playing? The whole place came alive! 🏏 One big shot... “SIX!” And you could probably hear the cheering from down the road. 😂 Of course, every Guyanese knew there was always one thing that could interrupt everything... The light flicker... The fan slow down... The television disappear... Then somebody shout: 💡 “CURRENT GONE!” Out came the candle, kerosene lamp, or homemade bottle lamp. The television might have stopped—but nobody necessarily went home. The stories started. The jokes continued. The children stayed together. And somehow, another memory was made. ❤️ This song is dedicated to every Guyanese who remembers when entertainment wasn't about having your own screen—it was about sharing one screen with family, friends, and neighbors. 🇬🇾 Do You Remember? Did your neighborhood have one house where everybody went to watch TV? Did you ever: 📺 Sit on the floor because all the chairs were taken? 🪑 Carry your own stool or chair? 🪟 Watch through somebody's window because the room was full? 📡 Help somebody adjust the antenna? 😂 Hear everyone shout when the picture disappeared? 🎬 Gather for a Bollywood movie? 🏏 Watch West Indies cricket with the whole neighborhood? 💡 Have the current go right in the middle of the program? Tell us your story in the comments. And tell me: What village or town in Guyana were you watching from? 🇬🇾 Berbice? Demerara? Essequibo? Georgetown? Somewhere else? These little memories are worth preserving because they tell the story of how we grew up. 👍 If this song brought back memories, please LIKE, COMMENT, SHARE & SUBSCRIBE for more original songs celebrating Growing Up in Guyana, Guyanese culture, village life, family traditions, and memories from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. ✦ Created by Anil Ramdeen ✦ 🇬🇾📺❤️ Nowadays, we can have a television in every room and a screen in every hand. Back then, we might have had only one little television for half the neighborhood—but we watched it together. Maybe we had fewer screens... but somehow, we had more company. Guyana...
