‪@bluehoundsjazz‬ UPTOWN HARLEM JAZZ | 1929–1939 Step into the streets of Uptown Harlem, New York, during one of the most fascinating decades in American jazz history. Welcome to a world of smoky piano rooms, late-night blues, swinging rhythms and the unmistakable sound of Harlem. This 1 hour and 42 minute musical journey brings together vintage-inspired barrelhouse piano, stride jazz, ragtime, blues, swinging horns and intimate late-night jazz combinations. From the first notes of a gambler's blues to the last clarinet playing somewhere down a Harlem alley, every composition opens a little window into another time. *A DIFFERENT SIDE OF HARLEM* During the 1930s, Harlem was a vibrant center of African American music, culture and nightlife. Its streets were filled with theaters, dance halls, cabarets, neighborhood bars and small music rooms. West 133rd Street, famously associated with Harlem's nightlife, became known as Swing Street. During the final years of Prohibition, speakeasies and underground clubs offered music and entertainment behind discreet doors. When Prohibition ended in 1933, the nightlife evolved, but Harlem's musical spirit continued to flourish. In 1934, the Apollo Theatre opened on 125th Street, becoming an important stage for Black performers, musicians, comedians and dancers. Meanwhile, the sounds of stride piano, blues and swing continued to shape the musical identity of the neighborhood. This collection is inspired by that extraordinary atmosphere: the piano player's whiskey, Saturday nights on Seventh Avenue, the glow of Lenox Avenue and the quiet moments when the city slowly wakes up. *THE BLUE HOUNDS HAVE TRAVELLED BACK TO UPTOWN HARLEM.* 🎷 Music for working, studying, cooking, reading, relaxing and enjoying a little piece of jazz history. The Blue Hounds have travelled through time to bring you the sounds of another place, another era, another night of jazz. Enjoy the music! --- ⏱️TIMESTAMPS 00:00 🎲 A Pocket Full of Trouble 04:40 🍀 The Lucky Number Blues 09:24 🥃 Whiskey on the Piano 14:07 🎹 The Man Behind the Keys 18:49 🎭 Saturday Night at the Apollo 23:33 💃 Everybody's Dancing Tonight 28:16 🎺 Seventh Avenue Rag 32:28 🥁 The Harlem Shuffle 37:41 🌃 Shadows on Lenox Avenue 42:23 🚂 A Night Without Sleep 47:05 🚪 Trouble at the Back Door 51:48 🗝️ The Secret Room Upstairs 56:28 ☕ Sunday Shoes and Blue Notes 1:01:10 🌞 A Little Coffee and Jazz 1:05:54 🌅 The Morning After the Swing 1:10:36 🏙️ Sunlight on Sugar Hill 1:15:18 🍖 Smoke, Beans and Bourbon 1:20:00 🌽 The Cornbread Stomp 1:24:00 🎹 Piano Man's Holiday 1:29:00 🎺 Dancing Past Midnight 1:34:00 🎶 The Clarinet's Lament 1:38:00 ⭐ One Last Tune for Harlem --- BLUE HOUNDS JAZZ Vintage Jazz • Blues • Ragtime • Swing • Barrelhouse Piano #HarlemJazz #VintageJazz #BluesJazz #StridePiano #JazzMusic #1930sJazz #UptownHarlem #BarrelhousePiano #SwingJazz #JazzBlues #RelaxingJazz #JazzForWork #JazzForStudy
