In psychology, "splitting" refers to a defense mechanism where individuals perceive people, situations, or events as entirely good or entirely bad, with no middle ground. It is commonly associated with borderline personality disorder (BPD) but can be observed in other psychological conditions as well.
This video will cover possible outcomes from splitting and a technique to help you manage it to gain control and empower yourself to continue to grow beyond your BPD.

Understand what is splitting, a core mechanism in personality disorders. Learn how this behavior manifests in both BPD and NPD.
This video explains the psychological concept of splitting, a defense mechanism often associated with Borderline Personality Disorder. Dr. Daniel Fox breaks down how this cognitive distortion functions, moving beyond common misconceptions to clarify the clinical reality of the behavior.
While frequently linked to BPD splitting, this pattern is also observed in individuals with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. By identifying these tendencies, you gain a clearer framework for recognizing how these personality disorders influence perception and interpersonal relationships.
