Are you an international veterinarian planning to practice veterinary medicine in the United States? One of the requirements of the ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) process is demonstrating English-language proficiency if you do not qualify for an exemption. In this video, we break down the English-language requirement for the ECFVG and discuss the three English proficiency examinations accepted by the AVMA: 🔹 CAEL – Canadian Academic English Language 🔹 IELTS – International English Language Testing System 🔹 TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language We also review the minimum score requirements, important details international veterinarians should know before choosing an exam, and how this requirement fits into the overall ECFVG certification pathway. 💡 Our perspective: Based on our experience and feedback from international veterinarians, at International Vet Academic we generally consider CAEL → IELTS → TOEFL, in that order, from the test candidates tend to find less challenging to more challenging. This is only our opinion, and your experience may be different depending on your English background, strengths, and testing style. ⚠️ Requirements and accepted scores may change. Always confirm the most current information directly with the AVMA before registering for an examination. 🎓 International Vet Academic Your Path to Veterinary Practice in the U.S. & Canada.
