Mayila, Sinkiang Folk Song, arr. Chen Yi

As a student at the Central Conservatory of Beijing, Chen Yi studied hundreds of melodies from more than 20 provinces and 50 ethnic groups. She came to understand that folk songs are a mirror of people’s daily lives, their customs and manners, and everyday thoughts. She said that the folk songs she studied and recited from memory each week in her exams melted into her blood and became her natural musical language.
