Arriving in Kushiro for a Hokkaido Adventure 🇯🇵

Day 1 of our Hokkaido winter family adventure begins in Kushiro! After arriving at Kushiro Airport, we pick up our AWD rental car with winter tires and start easing into our snowy road trip through East Hokkaido. First stop: AEON for meals, groceries, warm drinks, snacks, and all the little things we need for the next morning’s early crane photography adventure. From there, we make our way toward our first base, taking in the quiet winter roads, snowy landscapes, and that exciting feeling of a new family trip just beginning. If time and energy allow, we do a quick scout near Otowa Bridge and look out for cranes at Tsurumidai in the late afternoon before settling in for an early dinner, onsen time, and prep for a very early wake-up the next day.
