The Almost Christian is one of John Wesley's most famous sermons, preached before the University of Oxford on 25 July 1741, on Acts 26:28 — 'Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.' Wesley first describes the 'almost Christian': harmless, just, outwardly religious, even sincere — yet falling short. Against him stands the 'altogether Christian,' marked by love to God and neighbor and a living faith working by love. Few sermons have so searched their hearers; Wesley ends by turning the question on every conscience, his own included. Read aloud from Wesley's standard sermons, with sentence-by-sentence read-along.
