Right now, there's probably someone within a few hundred meters of you. But there's one point in the ocean where the closest human beings aren't on Earth at all. They're floating above you on the International Space Station.
This is Point Nemo, the place in the ocean farthest from any land. In this video we sail out to it and find out how it was calculated in 1992, why its water is some of the clearest and emptiest on Earth, why space agencies use it as a graveyard for old spacecraft like the Mir space station, and what scientists found alive in the mud on the seafloor beneath it: microbes buried for over 100 million years.
