Punch monkey had a rough Halloween at Ichikawa Zoo, and I watched who he went to afterward. On October 31, one fan channel filmed the monkey mountain all day with the clock on screen. At one point the filmer put up a card saying Punch had two rough moments that day, and wrote that they couldn't film it, only saw it. So there is no footage of those moments here, and I won't guess who did what. What I can show is what the camera did catch: the morning, a long grooming session with a big grown-up the fans call "Pillow Uncle," and a little monkey sitting shoulder to shoulder with a bigger one an hour later. Japanese macaques do sometimes make up after fights. In one wild troop, about 1 in 7 fights ended with the two making up. Grooming helps macaques bond, and it can help them calm down. I can't tell you Punch made up with anyone. I can only tell you what the clips show. Macaques are hard to tell apart from a distance, so I only call a monkey Punch where the filmer named him or marked him. Everywhere else it's "a little one" or "a big one."
