You're Carrying Next Month Tonight | What Jesus Said About Money Worry

There's a particular kind of lying awake that has nothing to do with being tired. You're not really thinking — you're running numbers. What's due on the fourth. What's left after that. What happens if the car goes. And into that comes one of the strangest instructions anyone has ever been given: look at the birds. This passage usually gets quoted by comfortable people at people who aren't. So in this video we put it back where it belongs — on a hillside, in front of day labourers and tenant farmers in an occupied country, people who were paid in the evening for what they'd eat that day, with no buffer and no next month. He said it to them, with their faces in front of him. We look at what "the birds neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns" actually means (birds work extremely hard — the three verbs he chose are all about the future, not about effort). Why he picked the raven in Luke's version, an unclean bird nobody admired. Why the flowers he points at were used as oven fuel the next day — and what that does to his argument. And the line everyone softens in their memory: he never said tomorrow will be fine. He said tomorrow will have its own trouble. Plus the honest part most sermons skip: this is not an instruction to stop planning. Proverbs praises the ant that stores. Joseph stockpiled grain for seven years. Planning is something you do; worry is something that does you. One of them stops. And underneath all of it, the sentence the whole passage stands on: your Father knows that you need them. He never says the need isn't real. 📖 Based on Matthew 6:25–34 (and Luke 12) 💬 If you've been awake doing the maths lately, just write "today only" below.
