From subtle grain and halation to softer colours and film characteristics, this version imagines how the village might have looked if it had been captured on cine film decades ago. Perched high above the village, All Saints Church was built in 1850 during Herodsfoot's mining boom, when nearby lead and silver mines transformed this quiet valley into a thriving industrial community. Designed by John Hayward of Exeter, the church stands prominently on the hillside overlooking the village. Inside are many original Victorian features, including beautiful stained glass and a medieval font brought from the ruined chapel of St Martin at Respryn, giving the church a timeless character. Herodsfoot is also one of Britain's rare "Thankful Villages"—and even more remarkably, it is one of only a handful of "Doubly Thankful Villages." Every person from the village who served in both the First and Second World Wars returned home safely, an extraordinary story remembered with great pride today.
