Cao Cao catches up at Baling Bridge with a brocade robe; wary of a trap, Guan Yu lifts it on the tip of his blade without getting off his horse — “We shall meet again!” Then come the passes: a guard who tumbles off his horse, two who lose their helmets, a feast with men hiding behind a curtain, a plan to start a fire at midnight, and a ferryman-general who falls into the Yellow River. At the old town Zhang Fei thinks his brother has gone over to Cao Cao and charges at him — until the misunderstanding is cleared up before the first round of drumming ends, and the brothers hug and laugh.
