Hurricane Simon has exploded into a Category 4 hurricane off the Pacific coast of Mexico. At 9 AM CST on Saturday, October 10, the National Hurricane Center put Simon at 150 mph with a central pressure of 938 mb, about 115 miles south-southwest of Manzanillo and moving north at 3 mph. Its winds rose by 60 mph in 24 hours, and it went from a tropical storm to a Category 4 in 45 hours. A Hurricane Warning is in force from Punta San Telmo, Michoacán, to El Roblito, Nayarit, covering the whole coast of Colima and Jalisco, including Manzanillo, Barra de Navidad, Cabo Corrientes and Puerto Vallarta. The official forecast brings Simon close to the Jalisco coast tonight and inland on Sunday, most likely on the Costa Alegre between Careyes and Tomatlán, though some models keep the eye just offshore. Rainfall of 10–20 inches, with isolated totals of 30 inches, is forecast for Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco. Simon's outer bands flooded Acapulco on Thursday, and one man was killed in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, on Friday when a rain-soaked wall collapsed. In Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, seafronts have been boarded up, shelters are open and residents have been told to stay indoors from 5 PM Saturday. Footage was filmed in Acapulco, Chilpancingo, Lázaro Cárdenas, Manzanillo, Cuyutlán, Melaque, Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita between Thursday, October 8 and Saturday, October 10, before landfall. #HurricaneSimon #HuracánSimon #Category4 #PuertoVallarta #Manzanillo #Jalisco #Colima #Acapulco #Mexico #SevereWeather #InternationalWeatherNetwork
