Explore fully → thehyperlinkedbible.com/go/first-fruits Once a year, on the morning after the Sabbath in Passover week, an Israelite farmer cut a single armful of barley from a field that was barely ripe, carried it to the priest, and watched him wave it before the LORD - "he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD so that it may be accepted on your behalf" (Leviticus 23:11). One sheaf, and in it the promise of the whole harvest. Fifteen centuries later a Man walked out of a tomb on that very morning, and Paul called Him by the name of that sheaf: the firstfruits. This is the whole First Fruits trajectory walked stage by stage across nine texts - and its surprise is that it does not wait for the New Testament to move. The firstfruits principle grows inside the Old Testament itself: from a rite (Leviticus 23), to a confession (Deuteronomy 26), to a whole disposition (Proverbs 3), until Jeremiah calls Israel itself "the firstfruits of His harvest" (Jeremiah 2:3). Then Paul says it outright: "But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep" (1 Corinthians 15:20). Professor Westminster walks the live study page with you, tracing the one word - firstfruits - from a barley field, to the empty grave, to the great harvest at the end of the age (Revelation 14). Every stage opens the text on screen, verse by verse. Explore the whole map yourself at the link above. CHAPTERS 0:00 - Introduction 1:57 - Stage 1: The Feast Commanded (Leviticus 23:9-14) 4:13 - Stage 2: Confession at Presentation (Deuteronomy 26:1-11) 6:26 - Stage 3: Firstfruits Across the Cult (Exodus 23:19; 34:22; Numbers 18:12-13) 8:21 - Stage 4: Honor the LORD with Firstfruits (Proverbs 3:9-10) 9:57 - Stage 5: Israel, the Firstfruits (Jeremiah 2:3) 11:49 - Stage 6: Christ the Firstfruits (1 Corinthians 15:20-23) 15:00 - Stage 7: The Spirit as Firstfruits (Romans 8:23; 11:16) 16:50 - Stage 8: Believers, Firstfruits of Creation (James 1:18; Revelation 14:4) 18:41 - Stage 9: The Great Harvest (Revelation 14:14-16; Matthew 13:39, 43) 21:43 - Closing prayer - the life verse (2 Corinthians 3:18) THE THREAD The lexeme thread carried across the canon: reshit / bikkurim (firstfruits, the first and best portion) - and the LXX already reaches for aparche at Leviticus 23:10. The prophets make the leap from what Israel brings to what Israel IS: "the firstfruits of His harvest" (Jeremiah 2:3). Then Paul lays that same aparche on the empty tomb → Christ, "the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep" (1 Corinthians 15:20); on the indwelling Spirit (Romans 8:23); and on the church (James 1:18; Revelation 14:4). Method: Typology - the waved sheaf is a designed type of the risen Christ, the firstfruits of the dead, whose resurrection guarantees the whole harvest reaped at the end of the age (Revelation 14).
