Jesse Sarey, Auburn, Washington, May 2019. Officer Jeffrey Nelson was convicted of second degree murder and first degree assault and sentenced to 16 years and 8 months. On May 31, 2019, Auburn, Washington police officer Jeffrey Nelson answered two 911 calls about a man throwing garbage and banging on windows, and found Jesse Sarey, 26 and homeless, outside Sunshine Grocery. Sixty seven seconds later Nelson had punched him at least seven times and shot him twice, the second time after clearing a jammed gun; he said Jesse went for his gun and a knife, while a witness had already set a folded knife on his car's hood. His lawyer told the jury it would hear from him, and the jury never heard about the two men he had killed on duty before. This is the whole case, from the 911 calls to the courtroom; this video does not show the shooting.
